The 5th of April marked the retirement of Stephen Reed.
Stephen first joined the business in April 1978 to work in our Typesetting Department. He played a leading role in the development and implementation of computerised typesetting particularly through the 80s and 90s. Later Steve built and developed our IT infrastructure through many iterations of investment and development.
Stephen’s father worked in the business for 34 years before his retirement in 1997. John joined the business in 1963 as a trainee compositor and rose through the ranks to become Works Director in 1992. He worked very closely with David and Peter Hobbs to oversee the move from our previous premises at Millbrook in Southampton to the current site in Totton in 1994.
While wishing Stephen a long and happy retirement with his wife Nicky, we are also delighted to see his successor Daniel Brownlie step up into this critical role. Daniel originally joined us in 2008 working specifically with our variable data applications. Daniel has been working very closely with Stephen over a number of years now and has built an extensive knowledge and understanding of the business functions and infrastructure. We wish Daniel the very best of luck in his new role.
